Before becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2015, Marissa created and has instructed yoga practice for 18 years originally based on the Astanga, Vinyasa, and Iyengar methods. Prior to and during those 18 years, Marissa was trained as a professional dancer and holds both a High School degree in the performing arts as well as a BFA in dance from The Ohio State University. In addition to being a massage therapist and yoga instructor, Marissa is a trained labor doula and certified childbirth educator. She uses these certifications as well as extensive training in prenatal massage to bring comfort to her prenatal and postpartum yoga clients. Marissa is a professional Arvigo Therapist and trained herbalist which help men and women hoping to heal from gastrointestinal discomforts and reproductive pathology.The anatomical focus provided by being a Arvigo and massage therapist is powerfully informative within Marissa’s teaching in the yoga studio. Marissa has spent her lifetime in the care of people at different stages of their lives. This includes raising her 2 boys and step daughter.

I was blown away by her knowledge of yoga, her strong understanding of anatomy and her application of choreography in planning her classes. In the 8.5 years I have been with Marissa, she has never taught the same class twice. Each month she teaches to a theme and each week the class becomes progressively more challenging as you grow in the practice. After four weeks, the focus shifts. But in the long picture Marissa also works gradually over months to prepare us.

During my time with Marissa she pursued advanced education in related fields that fed directly into her teaching. She is always growing her knowledge and experience and guides us to do the same.
